Deep Discoveries in 1943 - German U Boats and the Sunniland Reefs

St. Petersburg History Museums's "Happy Hour with the Historian"

I made a presentation on August 22 at the St. Petersburg Museum of History. About two hundred people attended,interested in the topics of the WWII German U Boat Campaign, its impact on the WWII oil supply, and the 1943 discovery of oil in the Sunniland Limestone near Everglades City, Florida. There was a lot of discussion related to how close the German U Boats operated to the Gulf Coast of Florida, the magnitude of the oil spill resulting from the sinking of 100 tankers, and the fact that oil has been found below the Florida Everglades.
